DIET

A correct diet is essential for amputees. If you want to be as mobile as possible it is important to stay as light as possible.

As many amputees have lost limbs because of lifestyle problems it is necessary to correct the problems that have caused the limb-loss in the first place. For some people this often means just reducing the amount they eat.

A correct diet should not be taken in isolation and should be part of a lifestyle that includes exercise (see previous pages). When a correct diet and exercise are both taken weight maintenance is easy!

Waist Measurement

Waist measurement is one of the best indicators of health (unless a person is very thin as a result of illness).

Risk of disease increases with waist size.

For men it is important to keep a waist measurement below 36 inches and for women below 32 inches.
